Deeper Roots

History Of Islam In The Americas

PAY WHAT YOU CAN

American History,
Begins With Muslims.

We have heard it all; this a Judaeo-Christian society, Muslims don’t belong here, Muslims are a new immigrant group. All of that is FALSE.  From contact with the Native Americans before Columbus, to Slavery, to the Civil Rights movement, Muslims have been a part of the very fabric of the American story. It’s about time we learn about Islam’s contributions to the Americas.

African History.
Black History.
Islam’s History.

Dr. Abdullah Hakim Quick has devoted his life to exploring the history of Islam in the Americas and has taught this course with AlMaghrib Institute over many years,  but this subject is more important now than ever, as an unprecedented movement unfolds around us and conversations about race in the United States reverberate throughout the world, we have to know our history so that we can recognize our present and chart a course for the future.

Shaykh Abdullah Quick made a point that most history books are so boring to us because there's no info in there about ourselves (Muslims). That's why this course was so interesting; lots of info on Muslims and we're Muslim. It's good to know our amazing history. Plus, by the end of the seminar you can be sure that your confidence in being Muslim will soar after hearing all the stories of very successful Muslims.

Much of today's modern civilisations owe their routes to Islamic civilisations in the Golden Age, at a time when Europe remained in the Dark Ages. Al-Andalus (Spain), Timbuktu in Mali (Africa) and Baghdad in Iraq were great centres of Islamic & worldly knowleddge.

This was a mind expanding seminar, thank you! Having been taught a "Eurocentric" perspective for most of my life here in the U.S., it was incredible to study and examine how vast the "Afrocentric" and "Islamic - centric" version of history really is, and how different the two perspectives really are. It was a blessing to attend this seminar to learn more about Islamic history and African history from a different perspective. It was rich, vast, and intensely intellectually stimulating.

This course really brings to light "You do not know where you are going until you know where you have come from..." Learning about the stance of the Muslims, their achievements beyond any other nation and how beautifully Islam spread was really empowering. By Allah I can truly say I see the world, history and my future in a different light due to this course and this is a course I still to this day recommend to both Muslims and non-Muslims...
